That's a pretty good summation of the situation and much better than you will get in any newspaper.
As I understand it one of the main differences between the AS332L2/EC225 gearboxes and earlier ones is the inclusion of the magnetic elements and flanged edges of the chip collector. Under the 2nd issue of the Eurocopter ASB these parts are being removed as part of a field modification.
AAIB reports can be lengthy and detailed but are very good examples of how to conduct an investigation. The one on the Chinook crash off Sumburgh is fascinating in how it pieced together all the evidence, carried out further investigations and reached a conclusion.
