Title: Wing core cutting
Post by: Norman1 on May 03, 2020, 07:20:41 PM
Hope everyone is well.

Help needed from the electronic whizz kids in the club.
I last cut  foam wing cores with an old friemd (John Donald) who taught me to fly many years ago and  I want to build a power supply unit. The assembly is not the problem - it's dentifying and sourcing the correct bits for the job (transformer spec/secondary voltage/ wire guage etc) for a 48" bow.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Norman, Although I have no knowledge let alone experience of foam wing cutting there certainly appears to be plenty of information on the web/YouTube to give you some idea. I do know that the cutting wire has to be nichrome wire, and somewhere in my store of various goodies I have a small stock bought from Flair many, many moons ago, so if your stuck in getting hold of some...........😇

Hi Norman I setup John's foam cutting rig as Mike has said you need nichrome wire to cut the foam and a 12 volt DC supply , it will work with a 12 volt battery but is better with a 12 volt power supply as you will get a constant 12 volt.
I can give you a 12 power supply free of charge surplus workshop item.
Wire can be got herehttps://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nichrome-Resistance-Heating-Element-Wire-SWG-18-20-22-24-26-28-UK-Seller/133261782045?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item1f07056c1d:m:mNBZJd1Kls6Z3037v6tOgdg&enc=AQAEAAACYIQvEcHUrT7nmUC3yY5qbPyaBN1nJEDYW8MyypsJPgXKMrJ5ZnoiL5k7zr%2FQKfBqzZl3tEUaFrvqmwa%2BMYRSLQvHNz0kqPQhOUhBIIGh7WDiaa4hv8DaPmzQ6dVSOrQ9LjRe6GYOOfKNDMvwrQbBsVBD23WefnWZVGSJB%2B1hpMvC0QIXvikxsSQxMXPxPBw%2FajVfqNehb6tEFZN2x8Bhp8Y8oyqSscmQ2CIDzoVeiAIm2yqbDzYdzvwi5ViknVwBDaX1Cm5VtBfOumEPa6tjAqQdLrUWSapjW5lVIHbc%2FCMG0JNY%2FWblMsiiUKAceFShGzkAtJ298O7qhnoi33j1cSRr6q1Er0ssldHIgr4a73U7RcEg24jK8gu6tC5QvokOMR5WZo%2BE5eCYvE%2BWnd7LBtTreqO3Hwy1A7uXORxo7KJOvrnsnr63%2BCMX6C7OKAPnuF3JD3siuDpaNSwZg%2FcfU42pMhcyYQazRZSMr1mgtCbjpGdJwJKWV%2FrhnF4tn8vH02vck9g3IW8SSXzNMbWTwrZHQ50iIZw7%2BtQlKFwJVfModM7J8cLkidiZ3gtF64sYgBQi71C8j3H7s4ldX2By2drsR3gb0ZdSeC036xCkSv2pbv%2FpOuHjkq%2FQJYFnLBQaYbVTW2%2BwfppcVpk05EJmoTrENx1nDhDTalMUYcNhDZNU7qVy3TV7pbRgcl11RivIjXn13LZsgznEkGKwgnRlrRSj10QJsgOHTfrP6ygAuparWthWhXPh6TT0%2BuN07apTvHBHrAsr%2FSRaOPR8YpHLJWD8wjW8eNW4JREMKo2479zQ&checksum=1332617820452cff910e0ea147ed9a3ede7f2109ac0b
