2020 Club Membership and SAA Fees, CAA Drone Fees
« on: December 28, 2019, 11:14:13 AM »
Folks

Just a gentle reminder that you need to pay your AAMFC Club Fees and your SAA Fees by 31st Dec or you will not be able to fly at the field.

In addition you will have to pay your CAA drone fees to the SAA by early Feb to allow you to fly after the end of February 2020. We have a CAA Exemption until then. Note that this is a CAA requirement and if flying at our field without paying the fee may incur penalties to the club.

I realise that this seems a bit of a faff, but itís for this year only. Next year the SAA and Drone Registration should be on the same form.
Similar requirements are needed for members of the BMFA and LMA.

If you require further info on the Drone Registration please refer to the SAA or BMFA websites, they both have lots of info thatís relevant to all U.K. model flying associations.

Cheers,

Ross

Hello Tim

Here is the link for the SAA Drone Registration. Although it mention Drone everyone has to register whether they fly drones, helis, planes etc.
This means you both have to register.
https://www.saaweb.uk/news_page.html

If you were BMFA insured last year or earlier with Inverurie, you can still insure thro the BMFA and register for the drone part tho them too.

You can of course register direct with the CAA directly.

To complicate matters even more. If you have a Bronze or greater achievement cert ( or an A or B ) you do not need to do the drone test, if you donít have an achievement you will have to pass the test on the CAA site along with a £9.00 fee. The CAA will then send you your operator number which needs to be displayed on all your aircraft. If your son flys your plane it has to be his number not yours and vice versa.

This year AAMFC prefers that you arrange your own insurance .
The registration is nothing to do with AAMFC, it is the operator ( you and/or your son) responsibility to enrol.

Unfortunately it is now law, and the club can be held responsible if we knowingly let anyone fly without an Operator number, so no number, no fly.

Lots of reading here ( BMFA based)
https://rcc.bmfa.uk/
All is relevant to the SAA with the exception of the BMFA testing ( SAA members have to do the test on the CAA site here
https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/individual/register-and-take-test-to-fly

All good reading

Note we have an exemption to allow members to fly without the registration until 23/02/2020. You still have to register to qualify for the exemption. It is just to allow time for the CAA to email operator numbers to all.
Exemption here
https://rcc.bmfa.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/1332-1.pdf

Sorry itís so complex, and confusing, but we all just have to comply with the CAA.

For Tim

I notice you said your son has a drone. If he is using it for his photography business he will need to obtain an NQE to operate, the drone registration is not enough.
Here is what the CAA says a typical course is

ďA typical NQE full-course involves:

pre-entry/online study
1-3 days of classroom lessons and exercises
a written theory test
a flight assessment
After successfully completing the theory element, applicants will:

develop his/her own operations manual
practice aircraft operation/flying skills for the practical flight assessment.
Flight assessments are normally arranged and completed at your own pace:

they are usually arranged separately but may be available on the last day of the course
they have no structured syllabus or sequence of numbered exercises, but the test will be based on testing the procedures that have been described within the applicant's operations manual

.
The full CAA info is here:
https://www.caa.co.uk/Commercial-industry/Aircraft/Unmanned-aircraft/Small-drones/Guidance-on-using-unmanned-aircraft-and-drones-for-commercial-work/

Hope this helps
